An urban-rural municipality in the north-eastern part of the Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship, in Gołdap County, on the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast. Gołdap is the only health resort (spa) in the Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship — its therapeutic resource is the peat mud (borowina) from local peat bogs. The municipality covers 361.73 km² and has over 20,000 residents, combining the town of Gołdap with 30 rural village councils in the Szeskie Hills region.
